AMA Legends & Champions Weekend celebrates motorcycling’s best Dec. 6-7
Columbus, Ohio, event includes AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, AMA Championship Banquet and AMA Congress
PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association will celebrate the past, honor the present and build for the future at the 2019 AMA Legends & Champions Weekend, Dec. 6-7, at the Hilton Columbus Downtown in Columbus, Ohio.
AMA Legends & Champions Weekend honors the legends of motorcycling, as well as those making their mark as today’s amateur champions. The weekend also includes the annual AMA Congress, where AMA Competition Commission members consider and decide the rules governing amateur motorcycle racing in the United States.
“Bringing the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, the AMA Championship Banquet and AMA Congress together on this December weekend truly makes Columbus the epicenter of American motorcycling,” said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. “Hundreds of motorcycling champions—past and present—innovators and advocates, along with their families, fans and friends, will gather for the ceremonies and to rekindle friendships and swap stories.”
AMA Congress convenes Friday, Dec. 6, at the Hilton Columbus Downtown, 401 N. High St., Columbus, Ohio, where AMA Competition Commission members can propose and debate rules governing AMA-sanctioned competition events.
Also during AMA Congress, the AMA State Chapters coordinators and select recreational organizers meet to discuss riding activities and volunteering and to participate in educational workshops.
That evening, the Hilton will host the 2019 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, welcoming the Class of 2019 into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame. The Class of 2019, which will be announced this summer, will be chosen from individuals who have excelled in motorcycle design, advocacy, engineering and business, as well as those who have made lasting contributions to road riding, off-road riding and all categories of motorcycle racing.
The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in Pickerington, Ohio, will host a gathering on Saturday, Dec. 7, for the installation of the Class of 2019 exhibit, which includes Hall of Fame nameplates and representative motorcycles or memorabilia for the new inductees.
Also on Saturday, Dec. 7, AMA Congress will conclude with its annual General Session.
Then, on Saturday evening, the 2019 champions of AMA national and regional series and championship events will have their moment in the spotlight at the 2019 AMA Championship Banquet, also at the Hilton Columbus Downtown.
“The AMA Legends & Champions Weekend casts the spotlight on what makes motorcycling so great,” said AMA Chief Operations Officer Jeff Massey. “All motorcyclists are invited to join us at the Hilton Columbus Downtown and at the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame museum on Dec. 6-7 for one of the highlights of the motorcycling year.”
