FIM MotoGP round at Circuit of the Americas postponed until November

The Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas, a round of the FIM MotoGP World Championship, has been postponed by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, the International Road Racing Teams Association and Dorna Sports, due to concerns about the coronavirus.

Originally scheduled to take place April 3-5 at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, the event has been rescheduled for Nov. 13-15. The Grand Prix of the Americas is North America’s only MotoGP round this year.

The city of Austin, Texas, declared a “local state of disaster” on March 6, which effectively bans public events of 2,500 or more people. The MotoGP event at the Circuit of the Americas draws tens of thousands of spectators each year.

The opening round of the 2020 MotoAmerica season was scheduled to take place in conjunction with the Grand Prix of the Americas.

AMA Director of Road Racing Relations Bill Cumbow said the MotoAmerica season is now scheduled to kick off at Road Atlanta April 17-19 in Braselton, Ga., which was originally Round 2. It has not been determined whether MotoAmerica will be part of the rescheduled Grand Prix of the Americas event in November.

To accommodate the postponement of the Grand Prix of the Americas, the final round of the 2020 MotoGP season at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain, has been rescheduled for Nov. 20-22.
