The soft, rutted, unforgiving Indy dirt led to plenty of drama at Round 11 of AMA Supercross. In a thrilling top-five battle in the 450SX class, it was Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing’s Eli Tomac who came out on top at the end of the night, increasing his points lead even further over the rest of the field.
Troy Lee Designs Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Justin Barcia spent most of the Main Event leading laps, with Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Malcolm Stewart, Tomac and Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin close behind early on. The pack battled fiercely, with Anderson taking over the lead about seven-and-a-half minutes into the race.
After an aggressive block-pass move by Barcia that took down Anderson, Barcia again was in the lead. But Tomac stayed patient, jumping into the lead with less than five minutes on the clock and keeping it until the checkers to take his fourth win in a row. Barcia was close behind in second, with Musquin third.
In the 250SX class, no one was surprised to see Team Honda HRC’s Jett Lawrence take another Main event win, but the victory was a hard-fought one. After winning his heat race in dramatic fashion after starting out dead last after a turn one crash, Lawrence took the holeshot in the main, with Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Cameron McAdoo right behind.
Just a couple minutes into the race, McAdoo closed in on Lawrence and took the lead. But Lawrence stayed close, studying McAdoo and regaining the lead — a rare thing in racing — about halfway through the race, then stretched it out all the way to the checkers for his third win in a row. McAdoo took second, while Troy Lee Designs Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Pierce Brown claimed third.
