Rennie Scaysbrook noticed the joy on his then-3-year-old son’s face every time he read to him about motorcycles, and it inspired him to do something.
This observation led the accomplished racer and 16-year motorbike journalist to craft his own book aimed at conveying the world of motorcycles to kids. The book — titled The Big Book of Motorbikes — touches on many different elements of the motorcycle landscape through both illustrations and kid-friendly language.
“Coming from a bike-mad family, I know the positive effects motorbikes can have on a child’s upbringing,” Scaysbrook said. “Bikes have been such an integral part of my family, and I wanted to pass that love via fun and informative education onto a new generation of bike riders. With a four-year-old son myself, I know each time I read him a bike book before bed I will have his full attention, so, in a way, it was a selfish little project to make this book! But I am happy with how The Big Book of Motorbikes turned out and the response from the motorcycling community has been overwhelming.”
With sections covering industry, competition, records and other fun riding topics, the book touches on a bit of everything. Scaysbrook penned the literature, and Asim Hussain drew up the illustrations.
Authoring the book is the latest involvement in motorcycling for Scaysbrook, who first sat on a Honda QR50 when he was 4 years old.
“Bikes are mine and my family’s life, they have been for the last three generations, so if we want this sub-culture to keep going we need to look after the next generation, and there’s no better way to get a child amped about motorbikes than to have them thinking about them as they close their eyes for bed each night,” Scaysbrook said.
Scaysbrook said a coloring book and hardcover version will be available for purchase on Amazon in the next week.
The Big Book of Motorbikes is available in Amazon stores across the globe for $17.95 USD at this link.
