Yamaha’s 2021 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT available in April

Yamaha has unveiled its new 2021 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT sport-touring machine with an all-new engine, frame, LED lighting with cornering lights and more.

With a price starting at $14,899, the Tracer 9 GT will be available in Liquid Metal or Redline colors beginning in April 2021.

The tuning fork company says the bike features a new 890cc liquid-cooled three-cylinder fuel-injected engine that gets 49 miles per gallon. The bike has a six-speed transmission and chain drive.

Yamaha says its new, lightweight aluminum frame for the Tracer 9 GT has the thinnest sections ever on a Yamaha die-cast frame at just 1.7 mm. For comparison, the company says the thinnest section on the 2020 Tracer 900’s frame is 3.5 mm.

Electronically controlled suspension is handled by a KYB 41mm inverted fork up front that is electronically adjustable with preload adjustability and has 5.1 inches of travel. The rear features a KYB single shock that is electronically adjustable with remote preload adjustability and has 5.4 inches of travel.

“The suspension provides optimum damping force that is based on real-time running conditions for great riding comfort and feel from the road,” Yamaha says. “Based on input from the six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), the Engine Control Unit (ECU) and the Hydraulic Unit (HU), the Suspension Control Unit (SCU) calculates the optimum settings for suspension damping. The damping adjustment mechanism is solenoid-driven which enables changes to the damping force to be reflected quickly, and big damping force changes are possible.”

The ABS braking features dual 298 mm discs in front and a 245 mm disc in the rear. Tires are 120/70ZR17 in front and 180/55ZR17 in back.

The 2021 Tracer 9 GT uses multiple LEDs to produce light and, new for 2021, the cornering lights provide for more light as the bike’s lean angle increases.
