30th Running of AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days a Wild Success

By seemingly every measure, the 2022 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days presented by Royal Enfield was a wild success, with possibly the largest attendance ever recorded.

While the ticket sales are still being counted, a conservative estimate would put attendance upwards of 40,000.

The event, held on July 22-24 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, saw Grand Marshal Kevin Schwantz lead a jam-packed Lap For History every day. The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer and 1993 500cc World Champ also signed autographs, participated in talks at the AMA Soundstage, and helped judge the winners of the Old Bike Barn bike show.

When fans weren’t hot on Schwantz’s heels, his trusty black Labrador Tank kept him company!

The swap meet was filled to the brim with motorcycle marvels, and despite an intense rain shower on Saturday, plenty of goods changed hands, vendors reported.

The racing action was extreme all weekend, with competitors filling out every class. The AMA Racing Department predicts it was the best-attended VMD competition to date.

“What makes VMD so cool is that 90-plus percent of the attendees are fully active participants in the event,” said AMA Editorial Director Mitch Boehm. “Whether they’re racing, participating in the bike shows, hawking parts in the swap meet, checking out the HOF displays or simply riding around the massive event, it’s a whirlwind of activity all day and every day.”
